Nas was born in a Brooklyn hospital, and his family lived in Brooklyn for a couple years after his birth before moving to the Queensbridge Housing Projects in the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens, New York. Nas made his official recording debut in 1991 on Main Source's song titled "Live at the Barbeque". In 1992 Nas recorded the track titled "Halftime" for the Zebrahead soundtrack, which also made its way two years later to Nas' debut album, Illmatic (1994).
