Hey,
In terms of folk I have an absolute love for Nick Drake and Leonard Cohen, in particular "Pink Moon" and "Songs of Leonard Cohen".
I just got some Bert Jansch which I am really enjoying. So what I am after is basically recommendations for folk which shares the qualities of the aforementioned artists and preferably has just a guitar and a voice.
It would be most useful if you could mention particular albums to download (i use napster).

Cheers! However stuff like Fairport Convention isn't what Im looking for, its too powerful, and not subtle enough for me, and Im not really into folk rock.
Bert Jansch - S/T is blowing me away at the moment!

I wouldn't really call Cohen or Nick Drake 'Folk', But lets not open that can of worms..
If it's folk your interested in Try The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan - Bob Dylan
Or Dust Bowl Ballads - Woody Guthrie
However If your after something that is just acoustic try Elliot Smith's - Either/Or Failing that try his first album which is called Roman Candle.
Neil Young - After The Gold Rush is another great one.
And just for the simple fact that everyone else on this site owns this album Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea

If you are enjoying Jansch, you should definitely check out his idol Davy Graham. I would recommend his album Folk, Blues & Beyond..., or his collaboration with Shirley Collins Folk Roots, New Routes.

If you liked Jansch debut, try some of his other albums such as:
Jack Orion
Rosemary Lane
L.A. Turnaround
Young Man Blues: Live in Glasgow 1962-1964
John Renbourn has made some fascinating folk albums, these are worth checking out (as folk recommendations):
Sir John Alot of Merrie Englandes Musyk Thyng & ye Grene Knyghte
The Hermit
The Black Balloon
Robin Williamson had also recorded wonderful folk music, part of it more daring and obscure than many of his peers, these are his essential folk ones:
Myrrh
Songs of Love and Parting
Music for the Mabinogi
Other notable folk albums, some with similarities to Nick Drake or Leonard Cohen, would be:
Bachelors Gate
Just Dave Van Ronk
Anthems in Eden
A Maid of Constant Sorrow
Hamish Imlach
Lazy Farmer
Banjoland
Death and the Lady
Frost and Fire
Songs of the Banjo Man
Barry Dransfield
Près de Paris
No More Forever
Joan Baez

One of my favourite albums ever. something about his voice. it's haunting but commanding at the same time.
Blues run the game and Kimbie = amazing.
"Send out for whiskey baby,
send out for gin,
me and room service honey,
me and room servive babe,
me and room service, well we're living a life of sin"

Hmmm. yeah, that sounds great.
May I also Recommend Robyn Hitchcock's acoustic solo albums - I Often Dream of Trains and Eye are both really good, if a little oddball.
mikepattonisagod - I realized after I recommended those, that they probably weren't what you were looking for (Just what I've been listening to lately) - but definitely check out the Kozelek recommendation - probably more in line with what you're looking for.

Hi, I have a similar taste to you with 70s Folk in the vein of Cohen and Drake and I've recently got into a Polish songwriter similar to Leonard Cohen called Marek Grechuta, please check him out its awesome! Get the album Korowa'd. It may be in Polish, but you don't need to understand the words of his sung poetry to know what he's feeling!...quality music....

I think Nico's early albums would please fans of Cohen's and Drake's starker material.
