Steve Albini is a legendary musician, audio engineer and studio technician who has had a significant role in the developing sound of modern music since the early 1980s. He has performed in three bands, Big Black, Rapeman and Shellac, but is most famous for recording many bands, especially at his own studio in Chicago, Electrical Audio which he founded in 1997. He is well known for his unique recording style, often being able to capture an organic sound more akin to a band's live performance. He is often known to experiment with microphone placements when recording but generally aims to get good results without costing lots of money and using few takes. As you can see from this list, even with his solid reputation he still mostly works with obscure, independent artists regardless of them having a strong reputation in the music scene or being newcomers, though he has still worked with some big names such as Page & Plant, Nirvana, Pixies, Neurosis and Jesus Lizard. Steve actually prefers not to be credited for his work, or if he does, just use the credit of "Recorded by Steve Albini" instead of being credited as a producer.
Thanks to the contributors of his wikipedia page for some of the information.
PS There is so much stuff on here with no ratings or reviews. I think it should be a new challenge that people try and track as many of these releases down and RnR them! Post in the comment box in my list or in this thread http://rateyourmusic.com/board_message/message_id_is_2064813 if you happen to do so!
NOW A PUBLIC LIST, PLEASE ADD ANY ADDITIONS I AM MISSING YOURSELVES!!
