There will always be a substantial crowd of folks who tout Supreme Clientele as Ghostface's finest hour. To a degree, I can empathize with them: the beats, the lyricism and the overall vocal performances are remarkable. In my opinion? I'm laying all my chips on Ironman, an album that wins out the crown by leaps and bounds in my book. Every single beat is phenomenal on this slab ('The Faster Blade,' 'Iron Maiden' and of course 'Winter Warz' are easily identifiable examples). Ghostface comes out hungry and swinging at every available opportunity to land a punch, and he ain't being backed by no dainty damsels either. While Liquid Swords is the flag perched atop the sky-penetrating Wu mountain, followed at a close second by 36 Chambers, I'll happily tout this as the second best solo Wu effort, and recommend it to anyone wanting to familiarize themselves with Ghostface/Wu-Tang. Jam it! |

Iron Maiden is a really great song, but the album loses its stride fast. Ghostface is a real talent but I think people are too forgiving of all the sleepiness. Or maybe I'm too impatient, unfairly reviewing this based on my listening experience while at work and frequently paused. NAH! |

If this isn't Ghostface's best album, then his best album must be the greatest album ever. This is about as good as an album can get.
Favorites: Iron Maiden, Daytona 500, Winter Warz, Fish, Assassination Day, All That I Got Is You, Black Jesus. |

Raekwon, Inspectah Deck, Masta Killa & RZA)|4:18 5 The mood is set early on with the introduction of RZA as the infamous "Rzarector". 6|Poisonous Darts|2:15 4 7|Winter Warz (feat. Cappadonna, U-God, & Masta Killa)|4:40 4.75 - 5 Being 'the worst rappers in the Wu-Tang', whether you're talking about Cap, MK or U-God, rarely implies an actual lack of dopeness. 8|Box in Hand (feat. Method Man & Street Life)|3:14 4 - 4.5 Ghost's verse here is great, and it's a testament to him that it's lost in this album of great verses. 9|Fish (feat. Following in the footsteps of the Raekwon/Ghostface collaboration Only Built 4 Cuban Linx..., Ghostface had a lot to live up to. RZA was under plenty of expectations as well, having been at the helm of the Wu-Tang empire and showing a constant evolution in sound, blazing a path through hip-hop few producers could compete with. But Ghostface had been the first voice to introduce the world to Wu-Tang, and so despite his unapproachable, standoffish delivery it's a little strange that he was the last of the Wu-Tang's star MCs to put out solo material. But in my estimation it's no surprise that Ironman winds up the Wu-Tang ultimatum, the point at which all elements of the Shaolin come together to form the ultimate mastery of Wu-Tang style. The production spans every step of RZA's progression from gritty, stripped-down cellar music to epic, practically cinematographic soundtracks of project terror and low-life high-life living. Ghostface's psychotically vivid verses, already a major factor in the group and Raekwon's debut reaching their respective heights, take delight in holding center stage and unsurprisingly spur everyone else to come along for the ride. And like Cuban Linx it is certainly that, weaving many small segments into a larger overall narrative of dramatic life on the streets that culminates in a sudden, remorseful change of heart. No punches are pulled coming into the last segment, and like all great coke records little room is given for the anti-hero's deeds to be viewed as heroic. As much as it' the entertainment Ghost provides, it's the subtle ways he comments on the world around him critically that allows his music to truly stand the rest of time. |

Worst rapping from the first wave of Wu solos, RZA's production is awesome though. |
