The only tunes that bore me are the blues covers "You Shook Me" and "I Can't Quit you Baby", but everything else is spot on, especially "Black Mountain Side". My favorite album but them even though Houses of the Holy and Led Zep II are just as good. |

There are lots of reasons to be critcal of LZ.Most of these songs are stolen from established blues artists and souped up into overdrive. They gave no songwriting credits to the original composers.Page stole the whole template for this style of bluesy rock from his old bandmate Jeff Beck and Page must be the messiest name guitar player around.Yet Zeppelin were enormously influential which begs the question why? So what are the big plusses here.Well he financed the making of the album himself which was recorded in around 30 hours of studio time and delivered the finished product to Atlantic records. There is no hype.He insisted they appear on the Atlantic label so that the band will be associated with "classic acts".They refused to appear on television and never officially released a single in the UK or gave interviews or completed any promotional work.Despite being a messy guitar player Page has "that" sound and he is the undisputed king of the heavy rock riff.He also has a way with arrangements listen to a LZ record, on the surface deceptively simple but explore further and it is like peeling the layers of an onion. It also helps when you have an outstanding vocalist and a drummer who has the power to flatten trees with exploding snares and tom toms.Add in a session player who is not only a great bass player but a fine keyboard player and arranger in his own write.Ladies and gentlemen I present to you Led Zeppelin as perfect a deployment of three instruments and a voice as you will find anywhere in the history of rock music. |

Bell-bottom rock and roll extravaganza. Everyone does exactly what they’re supposed to but it’s not exactly mood listening unless you’re a fifty-year old with a rudimentary understanding of the power of music |

One of my favourite Zeppelin albums. The strong influence of the blues really appeals to me on this album, however it is also a source of critism as many songs have been lifted from old blues songs. 'Dazed and Confused' is great, and for me it is Zeppelin at there best, nice and heavy with some innovation on the guitar. 'Communication Breakdown' is punk 7 years ahead of its time. Play this album loud...Enjoy |

I´m not sure how much this record made an impact in rock by 1969. There were so many things going on at that time that it´s hard to figure out if you were not there.
I haven´t listened to this for a long time, and I didn´t remember how bluesy this is compared to other records. For me, this used to be an inconvenient. Although I´m not a blues fan, this record is more interesting and solid than I remembered.
So I could say that after years this record is getting better for me among LZ records.
For some reason I hate Communication Breakdown... |
