While I only listen Hadean/Archean once per every three or four times I listen to Proterozoic, both discs are awesome. Great songwriting provides awesome prog/sludge metal. The wall-of-sound feel that they have is completely badass.

Average / Uneven

Ambitious and long one-and-a-half albums. First part is pure metal, and I was honestly looking forward to hearing it after greatly enjoying Aeolian. However, to my disappointment the songs sounded like Aeolian's B-sides more than anything else. The effect just isn't that great, especially with this production which is in comparison to Aeolian somewhat weak. There's very little which makes it stand out.

The second half is where the progressive side begins, with longer songs, more varied instrumentation, more symphony, more dynamics, more solos. But aside from the traits I just listed, it doesn't stand out either. A step above completely generic sludge/hardcore, thanks to the added textural flavor. In my books the payoff is not worth it compared to the time it will devour, but maybe a true fan of the genre would think otherwise.

Another album that's been sitting on my PC for far too long. There's some good tracks here and there, but all up it's a somewhat dull experience.

Ever penetrated a beer bottle with your penis before? Yeah, me neither.

It doesn't get a 5 stars rating just because of the first mini cd. I think it's not in the same mood of the rest, even if it's still very good music.
This is genius! Great!

very good (7/10)

[Rating23765835]

Although I barely remember this album, the cover art, for some unknown reason, brings back bad memories.

Perfect

[Rating22966590]
This right here is what the entire sludge/atmospheric/psychedelic/post-metal subgenre has been working towards (or maybe I was searching for - could be), and it is pretty sweet! The songs are intelligent without being geeky or requiring a headache in order to be "understood properly." This is not a Tool album! If my genre description sounds like Tool to you, rest assured, if anything this sounds like a New Age Neurosis, or maybe a more melodically-inclined Isis. The hardcore-vocals appear occasionally, and when they do, it strongly reminds me of the way Isis uses them. This album is pretty long. But it's a journey, of course. This probably sounds even better when you've taken substances, but as it is it's still pretty damn impressive.
