This was a really relaxing album but sadly I don't think any track really stood out to me as being overly good or bad, just kind of average throughout. Would be nice to throw it on and just let it loop but there's no sounds that really keep me coming back.

Favorite Tracks: Latin Note, What You Think About...

Least Favorite: Sure Thing

The second album recorded by Ludovic Navarre with this pseudonym comes five years after the debut in which he had proposed the combination of house with jazz, achieving here a much more organic sound without losing the electronic spirit. Released by the historic jazz label Blue Note, focused on acid jazz in recent times, it includes renowned samples such as Dave Brubeck or Miles Davis, in addition to giving rise to an interesting combo of real musicians who add totally suitable arrangements for down tempo and house proposed. "Rose Rouge", "So Flute" and "Sure Thing" stand out.

Nice, harmless little downtempo record. Starts out on "Rose Rouge" with a bit of an Amon Tobin vibe, which is always nice - this gets tempered down a little as a house kick starts to filter through the mix. From there on out it mostly goes the way of downtempo with a healthy dose of jazz and a good bit of house in as well. Some tracks feel like the stuttery nu jazz of Tobin and Flying Lotus; others have a solid backbeat that lends them a bit of an instrumental hip hop (or - dare I say it - electro swing?) vibe.

Not a lot of records out there with jazzy melodies and 909 snares, and this one pulls it off reasonably well, but it isn't particularly interesting on the whole.

Great and refreshing
I totally love this kind of music, but it´s usually quite hard to point out one single album because they tend to be jewels in themselves and thus not really rateable by any means. This album is different. Every track on it is unique and has it´s own mood and tension, while still keeping a slightly mysterious feeling in the background, that connects all of the songs and makes you want to listen to them over and over again. And it doesn´t matter what you are doing while listening; like many albums in this genre, "Tourist" never gets disturbing. Maybe that moody and dreamy feeling is what makes it of my favourite Lounge/ Chillout albums and all-time favs in general.

Electronics meets jazz, meets groove, meets 'the cafe', meets Sunday morning and Saturday night. It works and I for one am pleased the tracks are longer than 4 minutes. For a jazz and electronic music listener, a groove lover, and a cafe goer, (if they have good coffee), this is my cup of tea, well Americano actually, even here in Canada. Downtempo group Thievery Corporation often cross over into jazz, especially latin jazz, mixed with electronic's, groove and beat, and Tourist reminds me of some of their albums. I like them and I like St Germain.

This album smacks of metropolitan cool, like if you ran a small coffee shop in a trendy area of town, this LP would perfectly soundtrack the final hour before closing up.

Sure, it's really repetitive and a few of the tracks overstay their welcome, but this thing is quite a trance when played in full. Also, best in store play at Barnes and Noble ever, even to the dismay of my fellow coworkers.

I do like the general vibe of it. But I also think the album would benefit from a little bit more variation. It's basically Jazz over a downtempo beat, except Pont Des Arts which has a little Deep House thing going on. two or three more of these and this could have been a really great album.

Simply put, if you like house music and you don't know Rose Rouge, you don't know house music. 100% essential just for that song.

My parents put this on at a billion ducking dinner parties; I feel like I can’t even rate it properly cause nostalgia and childhood memories just cloud my listening so hard.

Montego Bay Spleen is one of the tastiest slices of Dub Jazz I've ever heard.
