bittersweet, passionate, male vocals, lush, melodic, energetic, anxious, introspective, anthemic, melancholic

A bit frustrating because the overall production didn't age that well, the verses's ambient synth sounds and particularly the lead piano sound could be more subtle I think.
Maybe the reason I feel that way about it, is because I tend to forget it is 2000's britpop and that is its signature sound.
Maybe I tend to forget it because I actually want it to be something else.
I tend to forget it because I love the song so much besides its production flaws, I guess deep down I wish it had another era's more subtle touch. No hate for britpop, I just don't feel like it has the nicest aesthetic of all genres.
Because on the other hand, the chorus melody and the perfectly emotional vocal performance makes it easily one of the most beautiful mellow pop song I heard in the 2000's.
By very far actually, I find it way more interesting than the bands's other hit Somewhere Only We Know, above most britpop and early 2000's pop hits. That chorus will never grow old.

Inherent Vice | Rated:
First time I watched it, I loved it for its amazing acting, characters, beautiful soundtrack, atmosphere and directing and also because it's hilarious. But I did not get a single thing of what was the story or whole movie about. And I remained a bit disappointed.
I changed my mind about it when I read somewhere someone explaining that the key, to understand and decipher it, was that the movie is all about memory loss, the one caused by pot overuse. Which sounds obvious, but actually not that... more... |
